Every other shot made by the Oranje put the opposing goalie to work, and the squad has made many successful passes. Will the hard-working team make it to the semifinals?
Costa Rica
Worth only 30 million Euros, Costa Rica has a price tag that is only slightly higher than Oranje’s best player, Robben, or 1/4th of Lionel Messi. Despite it, they are putting on the best show their national football history has seen in a long time. Under the guidance of José Pinto, the squad has eliminated the Italian, English and Greek squads.
It is difficult to say what is the most surprising part of the squad, but it is probably their immense effectiveness. Almost half of their 12 shots on goal have gone in, and the players have tallied a high count of accurate passes. Will they still have enough strength in them after their drenching Round of 16 match?
Summary
The squads from the Netherlands and Costa Rica have not played a single head-to-head game, but pointing to the favorite seems to be easy in this match; after all, it wasn’t supposed to be the Costa Ricans who faced off against the Dutch, but teams such as Italy – whom the Oranje eliminated.
But if the unknown Central American squad has managed to dethrone other football prowesses, maybe a sensational win over the Netherlands is not as unlikely as we believe?
