Group E is considered to be the most dangerous one this year. In it, apart from Roma and Bayern, are English champions Manchester City and the winners of the Russian league, CSKA Moscow.
The match between AS Roma and Bayern Munich should be quite the sight to see – after two Champions League rounds, the teams are in first and second place and both have yet to lose.
AS Roma
Even though Roma is the only Group E squad without a champion title from last year (Juventus proved to be the stronger squad in their national league), they are by no means falling behind their opponents.
The squad from Italy’s capital managed a key 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the previous round of Champions League. That, together with their previous sensational 5-1 triumph over CSKA, means they are well off at the start of the current round.
Rudi Garcia’s squad has showed their strength in their national Serie A as well. The team lost just one of their seven matches there – and the one they lost out in was the one against last year’s champion, Juventus.
The Roman squad can be proud of their youngest – combining their forces, the 21-year-old Juan Iturbe and the two 23-year-olds, Adem Ljaci? and Mattia Destro, have managed to beat opponents’ goalies six times this season.
Bayern Munich
If Roma’s disposition is to be praised, then Bayern deserves even more superlatives. The Munich squad has won each of their five recent matches without a single goal lost, and scoring an astounding 17 themselves.
Just last weekend, Bayern ran Werder Brema into the ground with a 6-nil victory, with Philipp Lahm and Mario Goetze scoring two goals each.
What’s interesting, Pepe Guardiola’s squad has not had such high wins in Champions League. Their low 1-0 wins against Manchester City and CSKA show that the squad wasn’t playing to the best of their abilities.
In teh end, however, it’s their six points that matter. In addition, Bayern is still waiting for the return of Bastian Schweinsteiger to the playing field.
Summary
If one of the teams manages a victory, it would let them get much closer to advancement to the next part of the tournament from Group E.
